Join us for a special free bunting making workshop at Fabrica gallery, as part of two heritage projects; The Boys on the Plaque and The Orange Lilies- Brighton and Hove in the Somme, which both commemorate Brighton & Hove’s soldiers who fought in WWI. This takes place on Tuesday 23rd August 2-5pm.

Thanks to participants who have joined our new Volunteer Research Group for The Orange Lilies – Brighton and Hove in the Somme WWI focussed project. This was the first session and took place at Jubilee library with the support of the Brighton and Hove Libraries and Information Service. This was also the first opportunity for everyone to meet each other and the new Research group Coordinator Ross Hammond.
We will be having an Ancestry.co.uk genealogy training session at Jubilee library in the first week of September (Date TBC) to boost skills and development.

Strike a Light starts new project – The Orange Lilies

Heritage Lottery Fund awards £9,900 to The Orange Lilies Project at Strike a Light to mark First World War Centenary
Today, Strike a Light, in partnership with Brighton & Hove Library and Information Service, and Fabrica received £9,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a project, The Orange Lilies – Brighton and Hove Soldiers in the Somme, in Brighton and Hove. Awarded through HLF’s First World War: then and now programme, the project will focus on the city’s legacy of the Somme and a significant event on the eve of this (where huge numbers of Brighton soldiers fell), The Battle of Boar’s Head (also known as The Day that Sussex Died), as a key part of WWI, and its’ subsequent impact on Brighton and Hove.
