About

Bringing creativity & heritage together!

Formed in 2010, Strike a Light – Arts & Heritage is a Community Interest Company which creatively explores heritage through life stories, project themes and local memories with diverse audiences.

Based in Brighton, we work flexibly across the UK to deliver training, consultancy, and projects – both in-house and commissioned. Our diverse portfolio offers something for everyone, and we are unique in blending culture and history.

Our programmes explore connections between
community, history and culture, with the aim of
manifesting pride in public memory.

We do this through:

  • Funded activities
  • Exhibitions & books
  • Reminiscence & Oral History
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Audience development
  • Evaluation
  • Learning plans
  • Schools engagement

Our Approach

Strike a Light – Arts & Heritage works in the following ways:

Training

We run an array of bespoke and off the peg training to offer professional oral history and reminiscence skills. Courses are available both online and in person. We empower participants to develop new knowledge and encourage career development.

Consultancy & Project Management

As a skilled and professional organisation with a team of independent associates, we offer a varied team with the experience to meet your requirements. We deliver projects, activities and support for heritage venues, arts organisations, archives, educational settings and local authorities.

In-house Projects

Funded programmes we develop ourselves, and in partnership with other organisations which explore cultural memory, community and creative engagement.

We make things happen!

Strike a Light – Arts & Heritage offers innovative ways for people to engage with their personal and community histories. Partnership working with Strike a Light continues to enrich and further inform pedagogy and research in key areas of work at the Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories at the University of Brighton.
