Bread Fayre activities
‘Extraordinary Dough Shaping’ With Anna’s Kitchen
This exciting workshop will focus on how to make ordinary pieces of dough into extraordinary-looking basket bread for your dinner table or lunch box. Think poppy-seed stars and elegant twists, knotted rolls and plaits, savoury-filled buns and a mix & match batch circle. Suitable for beginners and enthusiasts. Adult only (16yrs+). 11.00 – 12.15pm
Location: Bread Fayre site in the centre of the Open Market
‘Daily Bread’ with Alex Moran
Have a go at making delicious breads in Alex’s made easy no-knead style! These hands on workshops will give you recipes, tips and techniques in addition to a tasty loaf that will give you confidence to bake bread at home. Suitable for beginners and enthusiasts. Adults only (16yrs+).
1.00pm – 2.00pm A Delicious Daily Brown
2.30pm – 3.30pm The easy 10 minute Ciabatta

Kids pizza making with The Dough Brothers
These local mobile pizza specialists will enable your child to make their very own gourmet pizza, cook it in their fabulous wood fired oven and then eat their efforts! Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Suitable for 5+. Slices or full size pizzas also available to buy 11am-4pm!
No need to reserve – just come down anytime between 11.00am – 12.30pm

Vege Rolls with The Baking Society
Family workshop making tasty and healthy vege rolls with the Open Market’s resident baking shop. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Suitable for 5+.

‘The Giant Jam Sandwich’ storytelling at the Food Shed
One hot summer in Itching Down, Four million wasps flew into town. What are the villagers going to do about this noisy, nasty nuisance of a swarm? Make a giant jam sandwich – that’s what! The wonderful Jo Oerton will whet our appetites with readings of the 1972 classic illustrated story by long time Brightonian professor John Vernon Lord. No booking requires but limited capacity. Suitable for 2-112 year olds
Times – 12.30, 1.30 and 3pm
Location – The Food Shed shop (opposite the Bread Fayre site)
Stalls
The wonderful Lewes Bread Club will be selling their delicious ‘Real’ bread so come on down to buy a loaf or three! Also visit Selcher who will be selling their German bakery wares.
Community Baking Workshops
Throughout our breaking bread project, Strike a Light and Project Coordinator Natasha Padbury will be delivering baking workshops and activities with Autism Sussex, Euro-Mernet, The Food Shed and Jiva Healthcare as part of our outreach programme aimed at helping improve diet and nutrition, health and wellbeing on reduced budgets, help to reduce social isolation and help support healthy ageing. We’re also linking in with charity Freedom from Torture and showcasing their bread recipes and resources on our exhibition stall.
