Conversation Cafe updates

Thank you to those who attended our Conversations Cafe session this week. We hosted a session viewing the amazingly drawn diorama of the first day of the battle of the Somme (1st July 1916) by cartoonist Joe Sacco. There is a fascinating 6 minute short about it which you can view here. It is available in the graphic novel section of Jubilee Library and I urge you to look at it. It’s so long that our whole group held each section of it!
The main theme though of our session this month was with the very well-informed Stoolball England officer Anita Broad, discussing all things related to this Sussex based sport and its’ link to World War I and rehabilitation

WWI reminiscence CONVERSATION CAFÉS

Our free WWI reminiscence CONVERSATION CAFÉS continue this month, taking place on the second Wednesday of every month.
This month’s session is on Wednesday 9th March at Jubilee Library, Brighton from 2.30-4.30pm. All welcome!
We’ll be looking at the rich history of stoolball from its early origins, via the Victorians and WWI through to the present day, specifically in the rehabilitaton of injured soldiers. This will be presented by Stoolball England officer Anita Broad.

East Sussex in WWI – Conversation Cafe 10/02

Just a reminder that we’ll be meeting next Wednesday 10th February 2.30-4.30pm at the Jubilee Library for our next Conversation Cafe, as part of WWI themed The Boys on the Plaque project.
This month, we’re lucky to have guest speaker Dr Chris Kempshall who is the Project Coordinator for the East Sussex in World War one project.

Brighton Black History

We had a lovely time at our WWI themed Conversation Cafes yesterday, meeting at Jubilee Library, Brighton with speaker Cuthbert Williams MBE, Chair of the organisation Brighton Black History, sharing stories of the BME community in the city during the Great War. Many thanks to him for taking time to come and meet our group and to Jubilee Library for hosting us for the session.
