Strike a Light is working on the new City Reads project in Brighton and Hove, setting up reading aloud activities with older people across the city betwen June and October 2011 to celebrate the book ‘The Long Song’ by Andrea Levy (celebrated author of Small Island). This will encourage groups of older people to get together, enjoy a good book, improve literacy and encourage interest in all things literary through visits to the Rare Books Archive in Brighton, and a celebration event.
Anyone interested in taking part as a volunteer City Reads facilitator or participant, or finding out more, should get in touch with Nicola Benge – Strikealight@rocketmail.com for an application
City Reads is run by Collected Works, a Reader Development agency based in Brighton and it has just been successful in securing funding for City reads for 3 years so keep your eyes peeled for further activities in the city! To hear more about the City Reads project, visit: http://cityreads.co.uk
