Following on from the great successes achieved by The Port, The Beast & The Traveller project which took place in 2012 at Newhaven Fort, Zap Art and inroads productions have once again joined forces to develop a second exciting project for 2013-2014, due to start shortly.
The project will explore the social mores and gender etiquette of partner dancing in the 1950’s, and will celebrate the history of the Regent Dancehall in Brighton, (which once stood where the large Boots store is now) & The Winter Garden in Eastbourne.
From June 2013 through to July 2014 here will be a busy and varied schools and community outreach programme with intergenerational activities such as talks, exhibitions and tea dances (with the Ragroof Players), oral history training, heritage learning & creative art and drama and writing workshops.
The project will culminate in two performance events in November 2013 in Brighton & April 2014 in Eastbourne
**We are looking to recruit volunteers interested in FREE oral history training and interview collection, working with experienced tutors**
Learn how to record interviews and identify key histories about Brighton and the Dancehall; and how to transcribe and archive material – skills that can be used to collect your own family and community histories.
Stories collected for the project will be incorporated into a script written by Sara Clifford, and added to the local oral history archives in both towns.
Places are limited, so if you would like to get involved please find out more and book a place through the contact details below:
