Strike a Light – Arts & Heritage is coordinating the collection of oral histories with people who’ve worked at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust to explore the history of the buildings and the people in them.
We are seeking new oral histories for this project and would like to interview new people about roles in the history of the hospital. We would come to either your home or a secluded spot at work and interview you with each interview taking around an hour.
Our purpose is to record memories of the Royal Sussex County Hospital, the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, the Sussex Eye Hospital, Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre and the Princess Royal Hospital, Hayward Heath.
This project is being directed by Strike a Light – Arts & Heritage through NIMBUS, in partnership with the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
We will create an archive that can be used for publications, websites, exhibitions, teaching and community events. Our plan is to recruit fifty respondents for interview and we are keen to record as wide a historical perspective of hospital life as possible.
These interviews will take place between August 2019 and March 2020 and will be conducted by trained volunteer oral historians from Strike a Light – Arts & Heritage.
If that’s something you would like to participate in, we’d be so pleased! Your interviews will form part of an exhibition at Jubilee Library in September as well as forming part of an archive into the future.
If you are interested, we can send one of our oral history interviewers to do this.
Participants will receive a copy of the oral history recording and the accompanying summary.
Please email Project Manager Nicola Benge – contact@strikealight.org to arrange an interview.
We hope to hear from you soon!
