Strike a Light attended a really interesting Arts Council funded Artist in the Archive day at the BBC Archive building store in Perivale, North West London in February.
This was organised by Archives for Creativity and invited artists from around the South East to look at new ways to contextualise and explore archives. It was a wonderful opportunity to see a working archive, as well as accessing a venue which is not usually open to the public. We had a grand tour and saw a variety of processes relating to archival, restoration and digitisation.
The artist Chris Dorley-Brown spoke about a previous project he’d worked on in collaboration with the BBC Archive which was fascinating and informative, and it was also a good chance to see what other artists are working on, relating to archives in the area.
The BBC is exploring the idea of a creative archive plan further to allow greater usage of its images, photos, radio and TV.
