We are running a new set of workshops this autumn. Come along and try them out!
A life history book is a homemade booklet compiled to capture memories and stories about a person’s life, whether to mark a significant birthday, a change in circumstances, the onset of Dementia or as a beautiful and creative gift for a loved one.
Brighton based organisation Strike a Light – Arts & Heritage will deliver a series of four workshops to learn how to create a life history booklet for a family member’s life.
Workshop dates are: Thursdays 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th September 10am-1pm. These take place at the Strike a Light studio in Brighton.

Her Majesty the Queen turns 91 on 21 April and so to mark this event I am looking back to a day in her younger life when she visited Preston Manor. When I give guided tours of the house people are always surprised by this fact, royalty being more associated with the Royal Pavilion.
As part of The Orange Lilies – Brighton & Hove in the Somme project, we’ll be involving children and teachers of local primary school Middle Street Primary School in our explorations of the city during the Somme in 1916.
Two days left to book your place on our upcoming course (starting this Thursday) – Remembering Together – a Life History Book Course. We have a couple of places left if you’re interested in joining in.

We’re continuing with our pilot project this Spring – Dancing with Dementia – in collaboration with the charity Jewish Care at a care home in Brighton, encouraging older residents with dementia to stay active, using music to trigger memories. http://bit.ly/2n6oB9S
Strike a Light has been awarded a grant by Brighton based The Homity Trust towards a new project called Mazel tov Brighton! which will celebrate links between Judaism and Brighton and Hove lives with residents of the Jewish Care charity run home Hyman Fine House, many of whom were born in the city in the 1920s and 30’s and remember it well including shops, people, places and rituals.
