Fabrica Project

Strike a Light has been running some workshops with older people around Brighton and Hove, for Fabrica gallery in Brighton, in collaboration with photographer Cecile Chevalier for Growing an Older Audience – a project based on engaging an older, 70+ audience with contemporary visual art. The aim is to explore the relationships between older people’s narrative and engagement with contemporary visual art as a social environment, while focusing on identity and sense of quality of life through visual objects.

It is hoped that some of the resources created from these workshops will form part of The Forty Part Motet, an upcoming installation in April at Fabrica gallery by artist Janet Cardiff. Selected recorded material from the sessions will be gathered to make a digital memory box (computer, photograph-object as trigger, Internet) as well as having a dedicated space in Fabrica next exhibition – The Forty Part Motet by Janet Cardiff. This exhibition is where Forty separately recorded voices are played back through forty speakers strategically placed throughout the space. http://fabrica.org.uk/exhibitions/
