FOOD MILES MOSAIC AND COB OVEN PROJECT -WITH WHITEHAWK PRIMARY SCHOOL, BRIGHTON

Food miles mosaicA two term project with Whitehawk Primary School in Brighton looking at the theme of food miles and encouraging healthy eating. This involved delivering workshops in the school and on site at the Whitehawk Food Project.

HUNDERTWASSER MOSAIC, KINGSTON
with Save the World Club artists

A study of the Austrian artist Hundertwasser, in Kingston, Surrey. The budget for this project was £100,000. Nicola Benge was an voluntary artist on this project for Save the World Club arts charity.

In partnership with: Children, Kingston residents, Youth Offenders Team, John Lewis and Unilever staff. More than 1,800 local people helped as volunteers. It is the largest of its kind in the UK.

KINGSTON HOSPITAL CHILDRENS WARD, LONDON

These mosaics were commissioned and funded by the charity Momentum to brighten up the dull entrance to the Children’s Wards, based on the names of the wards which are Sunshine and Dolphin. Local schoolchildren and children from the hospital were asked to come up with their ideas and drawings and these were used in the final designs by the artists.

ROCK GARDEN, INDIA

Creating a mural in an internationally renowned, 25 acre sculpture park in the Punjab. Nek Chand’s Rock Garden is a fantasy world in Chandigarh, North India. It is the second most visited site in India (after the Taj Mahal). We spent four weeks here in September 2005 working for Raw Vision. We portrayed elephants, as the wall was part of a huge public space that is used for celebrations and weddings. We decorated the elephants with mosaic garlands and patterned fabrics and hung bells from them as if they were taking part in a procession.

HAM PROJECT, LONDON

Local children and residents worked on the mosaic for five months in the Ham and Petersham Youth Club by Save the World Club. The mosaic illustrates the natural beauty and flora and fauna of the area. In community partnership with: Grey Court School, the Ham and Petersham Youth Club and Richmond and Twickenham Primary Care Trust.

MUYBRIDGE MOSAIC, LONDON

A mural based on the work of Eadweard Muybridge, Photographer & Cinematic (1830 – 1904).

Schoolchildren and volunteers helped create this mosaic addition to the town centre for Muybridge’s centenary year, which will become part of the Kingston heritage museum’s history walk.
